Who would have thought….

I saw these kitchen cabinets that have been made from recycled wine crates today on Readymade

They remind me of a chest of drawers I found in a second-hand shop a few years back.  The drawers were made from wooden fruit boxes by Australian residents of Japanese birth who were interned in Queensland during World War 2.   These drawers included the story from the original owner (taped on the inside of one of the drawers) and I really love the care and workmanship that went into them with the only poorest of materials available  during a tumultuous time.  My daughter has them in her room and they are a very much loved item in our home…
